Charred Wood

Exposing floorboards to a controlled flame burns the softer grains first, enhancing the character of the wood and the natural pattern of the wood grain so it is more visible. The boards can then be stained or finished with a clear coat to make a very striking appearance in any room.

This contrast picture to the right shows the difference between a non-charred hardwood board (left) and a lightly toasted hardwood board (right). Both boards are white oak, but the right one more definitively shows off the characteristic swirls and beauty of the white oak hardwood grain.

Charred hardwood flooring is done to customer preference - lightly toasted and barely showing to dark and stately, and anything in between. Choose a combination of varied charrings throughout your hardwood floor or add just a touch of char on the edges and light toast on top to make each board stand out in the floor as a whole.
